The Fab Five in Their 90's: Their Strength for Life Journey
Sep 08, 2025
I had the pleasure of meeting five incredible Strength for Life participants at the Attadale Physiotherapy Centre, all over the age of 90. Their commitment proves that it's truly never too late to make a positive change for your health and well-being.
Maurice
Maurice has been participating in the Strength for Life program for 4 years now.
Maurice will be turning 93 in October and has always been an active person, enjoying physical activity.
A notable achievement for him was hiking Mt. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales and the British Isles, which he prepared for by practicing on his stairs at home while his children watched.
Maurice’s participation in the Strength for Life program has yielded positive and effective results. What he loves the most about Strength for Life is how it helps him maintain his fitness and keep himself in great shape.
Wilma
Wilma, who will turn 92 in October, has been a dedicated participant in the Strength for Life program for about 20 months.
Initially, Wilma tried physiotherapy, but it didn't solve her mobility issues. Her physiotherapist ultimately told her to use a walking stick. Unwilling to accept this, Wilma's persistence paid off when her GP recommended she start the Strength for Life Program.
According to Wilma, the program "keeps her going." She's thrilled that she doesn't need a walking stick at all, a result she attributes to her consistent exercise.
Olga
At 94 years old, Olga has been a dedicated participant in the program for four years now, with no plans to stop anytime soon.
Olga's GP recommended she join the program after a hip replacement, and it's been a clear success. The exercises have helped her stay mobile enough to continue her daily morning routine of working in the garden.
Bill
For the past two and a half years, 96-year-old Bill has been a dedicated participant in the program. He truly enjoys the discipline of attending regularly and the social aspect, including the friendships he's made and the way the classes are run.
Thanks to the program, Bill is more mobile and has an improved routine. The exercises are also helping to relieve his stiff neck. He credits having Jacquie there for giving him the confidence to join, as he already knew her through his family's past treatments.
Joyce
Joyce is a relatively new participant, having started the program at the beginning of this year after her GP referred her for treatment. This referral came after she fell in her backyard and injured her shoulder and arm.
Initially, Joyce felt unsure, but with the help of the Attadale team, she has been able to slowly strengthen her shoulder through exercise.
She enjoys the friendships and smiles at the center, describing it as a "happy place to be."
